Sep 11, 2015:
In 1999 when I started my life as a self-employed singing teacher I suffered from a prolapsed disc and consequently had such severe back pain for over a year that I never slept longer than 4 hours before the pain woke me up. At times I could not ride my bike and had trouble walking, dancing was out of the question. I didn't want to take pain killers - they only helped a little, but left me so dazed that it was impossible to hold a normal conversation let alone teach singing. I had spent so much time and money up to that point to learn the singing trade, no way was I gonna stop before it even began! 2 orthopedic doctors told me my lower back discs were so worn out that I would probably never be really painfree unless I had back surgery. And that in those days in Germany was a game of pure chance… So I started a long journey of trying out all kinds of alternative healing methods. Eventually I became totally pain free and have such a strong back these days that I sometimes wonder what became of my poor, worn out discs :-) A mixture of acupunctur, homeopathic medicine, strength training and yoga did the trick. At the end, though, before I knew I was gonna get better I was mentally and bodily so wrecked that most of the fun had gone out of living. That year was such a unique and unforgettable experience that I tried to put it into a song and so enter stage left: pain revisited.
